THE CITY

The City Bleeds
the Few for the Many

Founded centuries past by the Ascendant Prophet Seraver, Lore City crests the highest hill of an island suffocated by wild magic and sentient flora. Segmented into four cardinal districts, the city pulses in stratified harmony.

The Selected Reign Supreme

The Ascendancy functions as a bicameral legislature overseen by a Council of Nine and ensures all citizens and travelers are sheltered, fed, and clothed in exchange for obedience. An efficient home for those who do not ask for more than its golden veins can spare, the City welcomes all who come with purpose and piety.

Value Is Measured In Blood

Quintessence, a molecule present in natural Praesoil wells and in the blood of all sentient creatures, is the source of industrial fuel and human magic on the Risen Continent. The Ascendancy monitors the blood quintessence levels of all citizens for evaluation and direction. All migrants to Lore City are subject to testing before permission to assimilate is granted.

THE PRAESOIL

Art by Magical Kaleidoscope (2023)

The Praesoil Bleeds
for All & None

Spanning the Risen Continent, the Praesoil devours all. Unexplored beyond what the Prophet Seraver, the Pilgrim Reva Res, and the Porter Arv Erse charted after the Arrival, this carnivorous forest is home to cursed fiends or God’s wardens depending on who you ask.

The Forest Will Betray You

Connecting settlements via dense clusters of groaning trees, the foggy foliage of the Praesoil rearranges itself at will. Maps are guidelines at best, and only confident mancers can escape terrain designed to eat the unprepared. Evidence of swallowed towns can be found off winding footpaths. Only Dialogians are granted safe passage through the Fae forest in the form of the Rowan Pass.

The Fae Are Not Your Friends

Lore City scholars call them God’s wardens, but their motives are unknowable. They will kiss or kill you upon first contact, and may keep or escort you back to humanity if you desire to part ways. Never accept a gift offered, including a trinket, food, or advice. Never stand in a Mushring unless you seek to bend time. Never share your blood, your bones, or your name.

The Passway

One of several entrances into the Praesoil, often found just outside of a city gate but capable of appearing wherever.

THE CONTINENT

The Continent Bleeds
for Itself

Centuries past the Risen Continent rose up from tumultuous waters to welcome the Helming Ternion: the Prophet Seraver, the Pilgrim Reva Res, and the Porter Arv Erse. Each pathfinder dispersed to claim its Southwestern and Eastern coasts, then vanished into history.
